DESHPANDE holds a Ph.D. in oriental studies from the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently Associate Professor of Sanskrit in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Michigan. His book \u003ci\u003eCritical Studies in Indian Grammarians I: The Theory of Homogeneity [Sāvarṇya]\u003c\/i\u003e was published in 1975 in the Michigan Series in South and Southeast Asian Languages and Linguistics. His book \u003ci\u003eSemantics in Classical and Medieval India\u003c\/i\u003e will appear in the same series, and his monograph \u003ci\u003eSociolinguistic Attitudes in India: An Historical Resconstruction\u003c\/i\u003e has just been published by Karoma Publishers, Ann Arbor, in the series \u003ci\u003eLinguistica Extranea.\u003c\/i\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e Peter E. HOOK holds a Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently an associate professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Michigan.
