From the time he was a very small boy he loved pictures, especially the pictures in storybooks. Among his favorites were Grimm's \u003cb\u003eGerman Fairy Tales\u003c\/b\u003e and \u003cb\u003eArabian Nights\u003c\/b\u003e. At the age of twenty-one, Pyle began to contribute illustrations and fables to \u003cb\u003eSt. Nicholas\u003c\/b\u003e magazine and later went on to write and illustrate books for children. His first was \u003cb\u003eThe Merry Adventures of Robin Hood\u003c\/b\u003e in 1883.
