Official records of divorces in the Circuit Court of Jackson County, Missouri-even those from the county's earliest years-are closed to researchers because of the personal information they contain. However, late 1800s divorces were reported extensively (though erratically) in newspapers. The present work, which can serve as a substitute for the original court records, is an index to reports of Jackson County divorce suits that appeared in Kansas City, Missouri, newspapers between 1880 and 1900.
