The great king of Persia granted Haman the Agagite illustrious honors and commanded all peoples to bow down before Haman whenever he made a public appearance. Mordecai the Jew, refused to bow to an ancient enemy of his God and people, consequently, the offended Haman plotted a genocide against the Jews throughout the Persian empire, selecting the date for this act by the drawing of lots.
