The Practice of Printing, by Polk is considered by many to be the fundamental book on platen press printing. At the time of it's publication offset lithography had not taken hold to become the dominant printing method. Polk's intent with this book was to provide an introduction to young workers who wished to become printers. It is a well respected overview of what we commonly call "Letterpress" printing in the United States. The publisher owns two such of these presses and is delighted to have the opportunity to further the profession and hobby by bringing this book back to print.
