"Expiration Date." "Sell By Date." "Use By Date." "Best By Date." These are all ways of stating when a food item will go bad. But why are there different terms for the same thing? What does each of them really mean?

The terminology used to sell food can be very confusing, yet it's vitally important to understand because it directly affects your health and your family's.

In contrast to the tricks and ploys used throughout the food industry to sell products, Transparent Food Marketing is a straightforward, easy-to-use reference guide to terms and labels that will help you become a well-informed consumer.

Eight chapters cover a broad range of topics, including:

  • Marketing claims
  • Bar codes
  • Antibiotics, hormones, and steroids
  • Claims to humane treatment of animals
  • FDA standards
  • Sanitation in the food chain
  • Expiration dates
  • Tare weights and the Department of Weights and Measures

Here you'll find objective information about what it all means, including learning how to spot fraudulent marketing and sales practices while avoiding controversies such as the effects of GMO foods.
